What the Movie ‘Poltergeist’ Teaches Us About Buying a Home

Oct 30 2020

As part of our Halloween celebrations here at Framework, our team came together to watch the 1982 classic horror film, “Poltergeist.” Watching the haunting of the Freelings’ reminded us of some key steps to remember if you’re searching for a new home.

Don’t skip the home inspection

Before you buy a home, it’s important to have your home inspection conducted by a certified home inspector. Check the condition of the home, both inside and out. Whether you suspect the home is haunted by a poltergeist or a hidden crack in the foundation, an inspector will help identify potential problems.

Vet the neighborhood

You may want to visit a neighborhood a few times before you make a decision to buy a home in it. Talk to neighbors to learn what they like or don’t like about the area. To get a sense of its safety, visit during different times of the day. If people are outside walking at night, that may mean they feel safe.

Purchase a homeowners insurance policy

Never get caught dealing with a tornado, or ghosts, without having homeowners insurance. But before you pick a policy, shop around to find one that works for you, your home, and your budget. Your mortgage lender will likely pay your insurance on your behalf through your monthly escrow account.
